About Me
My name's Jon. Whenever I can, I go outside, catch some photons in a little box, and bring them back home.

About the Site
I created an early version of this site in 2005, for a couple reasons. The first is just to have a place for me to share my photography for others to view and perhaps enjoy. The second is to have an end point where I can put an image and say "this is done", because as I go through that cycle of taking, processing, and posting, I continue to learn new things and hopefully get better. So, as I keep going outside on hikes and trips, the results will go here. I aim to post about two photos a week.

About the Images
I shoot entirely digital, primarily with Canon DSLRs and a handful of lenses. I use Adobe Bridge and Photoshop for image management and processing.

With respect to digital editing, the bottom line for me is this - all of the photos on this site are images of real moments. Photography that becomes disconnected from reality through heavy manipulation just isn't that interesting to me. But all photography is also, unavoidably, a translation. The camera will never perceive a scene as we do, and we will never perceive a photograph as we would the original scene.

So when I process my raw digital captures, my goal is a faithful translation, keeping in mind these differences in perception. I'll interpret what was there, but I won't create something that wasn't.
